Acceleration & Wisdom: Education in the Age of AI

A keynote for educators and parents on raising children in the age of AI.

Three times now, a technology has offered to do for us something we used to have to do ourselves: machines took over the work of the body, electronic media took over the life of the heart, and artificial intelligence is now reaching for the head. Each time, something is gained, and each time we lose something.

In this keynote for the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education's first Online Symposium, I trace those three amplifications through Rudolf Steiner's picture of the developing child, and suggest that the real cost isn't the technology, it's a shrinking tolerance for the discomfort that children need in order to build patience, process feeling, and learn to think for themselves.

I offer educators a working frame for seeing where a student is in too much flow and where they're stuck in resistance, and close with practical strategies for sequencing body, heart, and head so children actually arrive ready to learn.
